Uganda

Close-up wildlife encounters in ancient, untamed landscapes.

OVERVIEW

INTIMATE AFRICAN JOURNEYS WITH WILD CONNECTIONS

It’s the faint rustle of leaves that first reveals the gorillas, deep in Bwindi’s dense forest. The trek has been long and thrilling, anticipation building with every step. Suddenly, they’re just metres away, accepting your presence with quiet authority. Youngsters tumble in the undergrowth while the silverback watches on, and in this intimate moment, you feel a profound connection.

Uganda is full of surprises, from tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park and the sociable chimpanzees of Kibale, to the churning Nile waters plunging over Murchison Falls. Our local team has lived and breathed Uganda for years, creating thoughtfully designed itineraries that feature both its secrets and its icons.

BEST TIME TO VISIT UGANDA

June – September (Long Dry Season)

Peak safari season in the south with easy wildlife viewing on land and water. Still wet in the north. Great time for Nile rafting and primate trekking — book gorilla permits well ahead. Best for: first-timers, primate trekkers, rafters.

October – November (Short Rains)

Short showers and dramatic skies characterise the south, but the north is dry. Wet trails make gorilla treks challenging, but migratory birds are abundant. Some camps close and rates are lower. Best for: photographers, repeat visitors.

December – February (Short Dry Season)

Warm and dry with easy wildlife viewing and great trail conditions for primate trekking. Book gorilla permits well ahead. Ideal time for rafting and boat safaris as animals gather on riverbanks. Best for: families, primate trekkers, thrill-seekers.

March – May (Long Rains)

Heavy downpours and lush foliage make game viewing harder, but newborns are abundant. Parks are quiet, some camps close, and rates are lower. Great time to see Murchison Falls in full flow. Best for: budget-savvy travellers, solitude seekers.
